Prayer of the Month

A Sportswoman’s Testimony - Pramila Bhat, Bangalore

My association with the Divine Retreat Centre has been since the year 1996. The blessings and the miracles that have taken place since Jesus came into my life are enormous and numerous.

As the Captain of the Indian Cricket (Women’s) Team, I had everything going for myself, traveling all over the world and playing in different countries. I always thought it was the best thing that could happen to any youngster; seeing places and enjoying all the materialistic pleasures in life. But at the end of the day, when I would go to sleep I found myself so unhappy, with absolutely no peace; something kept worrying me all the time. Like most sports-persons I underwent deep depression in 1995 following a bad patch in my personal life and cricketing career, something which I could not come to terms with. Well, there started ‘my association’ with sleeping pills which continued for quite some time. One of my family friends suggested that I go to ‘Potta.’

I did come to the Divine Retreat Centre in August 1996, but merely out of curiosity to find out what this place could do for my depression. That’s where I went wrong. For God had planned such a beautiful life for me since then! For the first time in my life, I experienced the power of the Holy Spirit on Friday, the 22nd of August 1996. When I left this place I was feeling light, bubbly, full of life, wanting to live life all over again! I was BORN AGAIN! Never again after that day have I felt the need for any sleeping pills because God gives me such wonderful sleep every night that I just have to hit the bed and I am fast asleep in five minutes!

Since I came back from the Divine Retreat Centre, a number of miracles have taken place in my life. Anyone who has not experienced Jesus would attribute all this to ‘Luck.’ But not me! I know who does this for me! It is my Jesus! One of the incidents I would like to mention is during the National Championships at Calcutta in January 1997. My team (AIR INDIA) was playing the semifinals. After the first day’s play we were 250 odd runs. But due to the continuous drizzle throughout the day, we were badly placed after 20 overs. We merely scored 56 runs in 20 overs and if the match was interrupted due to more rains, our opponents would have had to score only 56 runs in 20 overs for a result.

Well, it did rain that evening, so heavily that Calcutta recorded one of its heaviest rainy evenings. The opposition team were very happy because they had to score only 56 runs against a formidable Air India team who were the favourites to win the Cup. My girls had, by then, lost all hope and I could hardly speak during the team meeting thinking about the next day! All I did was to pray. I prayed to Jesus and left the result of the match to His Will.

The next day, we went to the ground and to our dismay the umpires said that we would start the match at 11 a.m. But, the miracle had happened. We got to know the next day that all matches, not only women’s cricket, but also men’s cricket and soccer, was not played due to bad ground conditions. The only game which was played in Calcutta was our match which my team won. We went on to win the Championships for the first in the last fifteen years. Jesus has been a part of me since then and, the miracles that have taken place in my life are innumerable.

Life is the most beautiful thing and I thank Jesus for giving this life and making me immensely talented. In the last two years I have been a witness for the U. S. Sports ministry and CBN. I talk about the love of Jesus and the Divine Retreat Centre to all I come across. A number of my friends have come here and gone back with many miracles and blessings.

To all the youngsters who feel depressed and have no motivation in life, all I have to say is: "Try Jesus!"
