Prayer of the Month

The Lord made my uterus expand - Andrea & Renwick D'Costa, Goa

I, Andrea, am a postgraduate in English Literature with a degree in Fashion Technology. I got married to Renwick on 21 December, 2003. I currently own an ethnic wear boutique. My first retreat at Divine Retreat Centre was in 1999 and I have attended ten retreats so far. In 2006, I had a miscarriage at six months of pregnancy. I got to know that I had a medical condition termed as “septate uterus with bilateral patent tubes”. This meant that there would be frequent pregnancies but due to an unequal division in my uterus, the foetus would not be able to grow in the second trimester, hence resulting in a miscarriage. Tests and visits to numerous doctors in Mumbai and Goa confirmed that I would remain childless unless I underwent a surgery to remove the septum but this surgery might cause a fifty percent future risk of infertility. Shattered and confused, I returned home but the faith instilled in me by my parents in the power of prayer brought me to my knees. On Good Friday at midnight, in my parent’s chapel I cried out to Jesus. In deep prayer I held onto my Bible. When I finally opened my eyes, my vision fell on the last two lines of Psalm 113. “He honours the childless wife in her home; he makes her happy by giving her children” (Ps 113:9). Believing this as the Lord’s message, I clung on to these words of comfort. Renwick and I left for DRC. There we claimed the Lord’s blessing for a childless couple with the same message. With Fr. Augustine Vallooran’s blessings we came home in peace and faith that a child would be born to us. This was on 9 June, 2006. A pregnancy test on 19 July confirmed me as pregnant. Under the instructions of my gynaecologist, I lay in bed for the next eight months, immobile, heavily medicated and diet controlled.

The Lord made my uterus expand enough to accommodate my son much to the surprise of many doctors. On 6 March 2007 we were blessed with a son, healthy and bright. We named him Samuel. While I prayed almost twenty four hours a day during my pregnancy the Lord kept flashing the name Samuel to me, so I knew the child would be a boy and I had to name him Samuel the name is so perfect as it means,” I asked the Lord for him” and in Hebrew, “The name of God.” But after few days Samuel started getting sick; he used to get high fever. For the first two years, most of the days, he was on medication for some sort of infection. Frequent visits to doctors in Goa and Mumbai proved futile. In March 2009 I brought him to DRC to thank God for having given him to me as a gift and to celebrate his second birthday. On Tuesday night he got high fever. The next day morning I took him to the resident doctor and presented his medical records. The doctor looked at me in the face and said, “The Lord has a message for you. He loves you and He wants you to forgive some one (name was mentioned) and pray for him. This person was confused and had a messed up life.” I accepted that my monthly confessions were futile as I was forgiving the person mentally and verbally but not from my heart. I started to pray for the grace to forgive from my heart and since then Samuel is in good health. Our God truly reigns supreme in our life. Not a day or a moment goes by where we are unable to praise Jesus for His mercy and love for us.  Praise the Lord.
