People used to call me 'Engine Lobo' - Sebastian Lobo, Karnataka

I am fifty years old, married and I have a son. I am working BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Ltd.) factory in Karnataka. At the age of sixteen I started smoking and I became a chain-smoker. People use to call me ‘Engine Lobo.’ It went to an extent of taking two breaks to go out to smoke even during Sunday Holy Mass. I started drinking at the age of twenty two and within few years I became a slave to it. There was no peace at home; all my earnings and many loans were not sufficient to pay for my bad habits. Finally when I heard about Divine Retreat Centre from my brother-in-law, I came here in 1990. I wanted to stop my bad habits of smoking and drinking completely. But unfortunately I fell back into it. I came for the second retreat in 1992 and prayed for His grace. This time God gave me the grace to stop drinking. I found it very difficult to quit smoking. Reading the teaching of Jesus about persistence in prayer (Lk 11:9-13) once again I came to DRC in 1994 and prayed earnestly to Jesus to help me to come out of this bad habit. God blessed me and gave me the grace to stop smoking after that retreat. Since then I am using that money and time to help in the parish activities for the greater glory of God. After attending retreats at DRC, I started reading Psalm 91. Especially when I recite verse seven, I feel God’s protection over me. I praise and thank the Lord for He is my shield and my protection.
