Friend’s Thyroid Healed (Carlo, New Zealand)

Dear Fr Augustine,

I have said in the past months before you and the wonderful team came to NZ that if one person is healed then all the trouble taken by us all (The Potta Team included) is not in vain and today I witnessed God's Healing in the lives of those around us.

Shirley is a work colleague who is always ill, on the third day of the convention when during the benediction you called out her name I claimed her healing for her, standing in the gap so to speak, so that she may be healed. The next day at work I told Shirley this and she was quite moved. She is a Chinese from Malaysia and is not a Christian though she has heard lots about Christ all her life.

I then urged her to come for the Prayer and worship at Three Kings but she could not attend. Today one day after you and the team have left NZ she came to the lunchroom eyes shining and told me that the healing has been successful. Praise God!

These are her words... (Though I call myself Carlo, she knows me as Mathew, my baptised name)

" My name is Shirley and I work with Mathew as his colleague. Mat has been telling me about your anointing and healing powers and visit to NZ. Mat informed me that on the day of your healing session, you called my name and Mat received the healing on my behalf. I am suffering from overactive thyroid since Nov 03 and had been on medications and three weekly blood tests to monitor my condition. Yesterday, I went to my thyroid specialist for a routine check it showed that my thyroid level has returned to normal. It has been very good news to me as my thyroid level has been above the normal since Nov 03 even though I have been on medication. On top of this good news, I have also gained 3.5 kg in weight that was a difficult since childhood. This increase in weight has been the highest that I can remember. I have been underweight all my life and gaining weight is just like striking a lottery! "

Complete Healing of Paralysis (K. N. Joseph, Secunderabaad)

“When the cares of my heart are many, Thy consolations cheer my soul.” (Psalm 94:19)

August 7, 1996 was a crucial day in my life – a day when my world turned upside down. I have been working for many years in the Gulf. On August 7, 1996, I was on my way home from Das Island (Abu Dhabi), when my ordeal began. The traffic police had stopped all traffic on the highway near Jeblali as a fire was raging ahead. Suddenly, a car moving at lightening speed approached from behind and being unable to stop in time, crashed into my car. The impact was so great that four cars ahead of me also got involved in the crash. I was trapped between the front and rear seats and was taken to the hospital in an unconscious state, by the police.

I regained consciousness in the ICU after two days… to the horrible realization that I was totally paralyzed. The cervical bones in my spine C3 to C6 were completely damaged. In fact C5 and C6 were dislocated and I was in terrible pain. This condition lasted for fourteen days. Then my left side showed little improvement. On August 20, I was operated upon and bone was grafted from my right hip into the cervix. When I was finally discharged, wearing a collar, there was absolutely no monitoring ability in my right side. I was brought to India in this condition as I was declared medically unfit to continue with my job.

At the NIMS hospital in Hyderabad, I continued my medication and physiotherapy. This accident had drained me not only physically, but even emotionally; my morale was so low that I felt like giving up.

I heard about the Divine Retreat Centre and felt a strong urge to go there, but did not know how. My God however, directed and I could accompany a group from Secunderabad for the retreat on October 12, 1996, in the most amazing way. A reserved seat was available on the train as somebody had cancelled a ticket just two days prior to our departure.

On Tuesday October 15^th, after my confession and counseling, when I had forgiven everyone and surrendered myself to the Lord, I felt His Power coming into my hands as I began to experience movement in them. That same evening, I could eat with my own hands, which is something I had not done since my accident. The next day at the inner healing session, my name was announced with the message, “Joe you are under My shelter, do not be afraid.” On Friday, the 18^th, during the infilling of the Holy Spirit, I felt the strong protective arms of my Lord holding my neck from behind. I was completely healed at that moment!

This baffled the neuro-surgeons at NIMS who certified that I did not need further medication. All my pain vanished. I was completely cured and could move without the collar. I praise and thank God for His healing touch as He had done for the paralytic in the Bible.

Liberated from 34 Years of Smoking (Valley D'Souza, Karnataka)

“O Lord, I have heard the report of Thee, and Thy work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years renew it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.” (Habakkuk 3:2)

From childhood, I have been attending Mass regularly and I am closely connected with Church activities. However, I had a quick temper and was addicted to heavy smoking. I was proud to proclaim myself as a “self-made man.” I used to fell irritated and uneasy inspite of achieving all my goals in life.

In January 1996, on persuasion of my wife, I agreed to attend a retreat at the Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor. But I was certain that I would never be able to give up smoking, a habit I had cultivated since my teenage. On the second day of the retreat we were asked to surrender our vices before the altar. I was very hesitant and pondered over all excuses not to give up smoking. My wife and two daughters who were present there pleaded with tears to Jesus to give me the grace and strength to surrender my habit. At last, after much struggle, I went ahead and dropped my pipe and tobacco into the basket placed before the altar.

It is now many years since I have completely given up smoking after 34 long years. I am amazed at how upon surrendering my vice at the feet of Jesus, I was filled with grace and determination to abstain from smoking. I did not experience any nicotine withdrawal symptoms, nor did I feel any urge to smoke. In the past, I had tried several times to give up smoking on my own, but had failed badly. Now together with Jesus, I was victorious! I am enjoying good health and peace of mind.

In August 1996, I once again returned to Divine to thank our Lord for this great and begged God to give me the grace to overcome my pride and bad temper. During the retreat the Lord touched me and I was able to acknowledge my faults. For the first time in my life I felt the closeness of God and the power of prayer.

In December 1996, I made one more retreat and this time I was given the grace to forgive all the people who I felt had hurt me, including my parents. Today, I enjoy complete peace of mind and my prayer life has increased. With this, my ego and temper have declined. I feel the presence of Jesus at every moment and He directs my every action. Jesus is everything and I am nothing. I now spend my spare time for community welfare in all humbleness.

My appeal to my brethren who have a long history of smoking, and who have failed to give up on their own, to attend a retreat at Divine. Here, together with Jesus, you will experience the great liberation from this injurious, slow-killing vice. As for me, I shall not cease to praise and thank my Living God.
